Priorities of Care from Diagnosis to Death
This 2-day course is designed specifically for Registered Nurses and qualified healthcare professionals who work with patients with end of life needs and will enhance knowledge and skills in the delivery of high quality End of Life Care.
The course is closely linked to the document 'One Chance to Get it Right' using the 5 Priorities of Care. The focus is on the needs and wishes of the dying person and those closest to them in both the planning and delivery of care.

Communication Skills Training
This new one-day workshop consists of:
Sage & Thyme communication skills session; Working Lunch; Resilience Session; Mindfulness Session
The day will raise awareness of some methods of supporting ourselves in dealing with the challenges we face and ways of how to look after yourself.
Sage & Thyme - 9.30 - 12.30
Our 3-hour communiction skills session will increase your confidence, willingness and competence to explore the emotional concerns of anyone who may be worried or distressed.
Working Lunch - 12.30 - 1.30 - this will provide an opportunity to network and develop peer support
Resilience Session - 1.30 - 2.45
We hope this taster session will provide you with some tools and techniques to help develop resilience for your journey through life.
Mindfulness Session - 3.00 - 4.15
Learn more about yourself and how paying attention to our immediate experiences might assist us in 'being with' the people we are supporting.
Although this is intended to be a whole day workshop, we are happy for people to book the Sage & Thyme session separately if wished.

An evidence-based course, nationally accredited and with expert trainers.
Oakhaven Hospice are delighted to be managing this training across the South Coast Central area of Hampshire, working as part of the Hampshire Hospices Education Consortium.
This 2-day Connected course, which is part of the National Communication Skills Training programme, is facilitated by nationally accredited trainers and includes discussion of the research evidence surrounding communication in health care, with interactive exercises and role-play in small groups with professional actors.

Situated Learning is a key component of our education strategy and delivery at Oakhaven Hospice.
This can be accessed in a variety of ways:
- We provide regular professional patient reviews both in Lymington New Forest Hospital and nursing and residential homes in our catchment area by a Clinical Nurse Specialist and, (if required) a consultant.
- Specialist advice, role modelling of best practice and educational support are part of this service.
This can be followed up with:
- Bespoke targeted teaching sessions
- Booking onto training days and sessions at Oakhaven
- Applying for one of our bespoke packages which will include:
- Syringe Driver training
- Symptom Management
- Verification of Expected Death

What is an Oakhaven Link Nurse?
- A link nurse is a Registered Nurse or a Health Care Assistant with a special interest in Palliative and End of Life Care.
- We hold a meeting approximately every 6 weeks here at Oakhaven Hospice and share information and knowledge gained within the group
- It is a chance to network with other people working in healthcare and to discuss and reflect on any relevant topic.
