Day Hospice

The Day Hospice is one part of Oakhaven Hospice which offers practical  help and support and the opportunity for social interaction if you are living with a life-limiting condition.

Our Day Hospice is situated in the homely environment of Pennington Chase (the original house connected to the Hospice). We believe in asking what matters to you and making every day count.

You can expect excellent care in a caring and supportive atmosphere. The Team respect your choices and values and provide a safe place in which to discuss medical problems and concerns with the team. Experienced nurses offer an holistic approach to your individual needs and those of your family or carer. Day Hospice has close links with your own GP, district nurses and Hospital Consultants.

During the morning, a physiotherapist leads gentle armchair exercise classes and can give individual guidance if needed to help with your symptoms and aid in maintaining your independence.

The complementary therapists offer treatments which can help you with symptom management and relaxation. Referrals can be made to the counselling service for you or a member of your family. There is also a team of chaplains who offer a daily service and offer spiritual support.

There is a varied programme of activities on offer which range from Arts and Craft classes, interesting entertainment and trips out. The Day Hospice is a social setting through which you will be able to enjoy the mutual support and friendship of the other patients.

Your family could also benefit, knowing that you are in a safe environment for the day. A delicious homemade lunch is provided, catering for all dietary needs and refreshments are served throughout the day by our wonderful team of volunteers.

The Day Service takes place on a Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10.30am to 3.15pm. You will be offered a 1 day a week for a  12 week period and then reviewed.

Many patients are brought in by their families, but travel arrangements can be organised for those unable to drive, or who require specialist transport.

Referral to the service can be made by your GP, Clinical Nurse Specialist or through your Hospital Team.
