Our Vision for Education at Oakhaven
Providing top quality education about palliative and end of life care is an important part of the hospice philosophy. This is not only about raising awareness of the work that Oakhaven does, but also about developing the knowledge, skill and confidence in end of life care of others who may work with patients and their families. When someone is dying, many people can be involved and Oakhaven believes it is important to share our skills and knowledge with all of those who might be a part of this difficult time.
The clinical teams at Oakhaven are pleased to offer a range of sessions to help support others and grow knowledge, confidence and skill in caring for those at the end of their lives. Full details of all of our courses can be found under courses and learning sessions.
In addition to classroom based sessions, Oakhaven also believes in learning through doing. Our situated learning project enables Oakhaven nurses to go out and work alongside staff in other settings to help support them and develop their knowledge and skills in end of life care. Our team of community and hospice at home nurses often work alongside staff in nursing homes or in patients own homes for example.
We also ensure our own staff are able to access the necessary training and education, so we have a workforce that remains expert in the developing field of palliative and end of life care. As well as training and education in end of life care, Oakhaven provides a range of education opportunities for staff and volunteers.
