One of the largest and most vital part of our income comes from legacies. By choosing to make a bequest to Oakhaven Hospice in your will, you will help ensure we can continue to provide specialist care for those with life limiting illness. You will make a difference to the lives of others.
There are a number of ways to remember us in your will; depending on the size of your gift. The following is just a quick guide but if you wish to discuss your gift with us please call our Head of Fundraising & Communications Mike Denny on 01590 677311 or email him

A Residuary Gift: This is a popular way to leave a legacy. It is where the charity receives a proportion (or percentage) of your estate after other bequests to your family have been made.
A Pecuniary Legacy: This is where you leave a specific sum to the charity. You can also leave a specific gift such as jewellery, property or furniture.
How can a legacy affect my Inheritance Tax? You should always consult your solicitor, accountant or financial advisor but in general gifts made to charity such as Oakhaven Hospice could help you reduce your inheritance tax bill. Inheritance tax is based on the worth of your estate; a gift to Oakhaven is deducted from your estate before your inheritance tax is calculated - if it brings the value of your estate below the taxable threshold, it could mean that your beneficiaries are not liable for any inheritance tax.
Thank you - If you do decide to leave a gift to Oakhaven Hospice it would help us with our future planning if you let us know. Of course many people prefer to keep their personal affairs private and we respect this, but we would like the opportunity to thank you personally. Friends of Oakhaven are often invited to our many functions and garden parties and you may find it a rewarding experience to get to know us and the work we do here.
If you are considering leaving a gift to Oakhaven in your will and would like to know more about us you are most welcome to pop in for an informal visit. Please call or email our Head of Fundraising & Communications to arrange this on the contact details above.
A final thought - Research tells us that in excess of 74% of the UK population support charities and, when asked, 35% of people say they'd happily leave a gift to charity in their will once family and friends have been provided for. Only 7% actually do!
