Tuesday May 4th was a day of double celebration for Oakhaven Hospice. First we were proud to be celebrating the opening of our newly redeveloped day hospice facilities in Pennington Chase with friends, volunteers, staff & supporters. Nine months of hard work has seen the building developed into the wonderful facilities formally opened today by Oakhaven Patron Susan Hampshire.
We were also delighted to be able to announce on this very special day in our history that building will commence on the second phase of our re-development programme later this year following receipt of the wonderful news that we have been awarded a grant of £396,000 from the Department of Health following an application made recently “to enable improvements to the physical environment of the hospice”.
The application was made to part fund the second phase of Oakhaven’s redevelopment programme which is the building of up to four additional in-patient bedrooms. With the rest of the funding for the project in place from its own fundraising initiatives the Lymington based hospice is hoping for building work to commence later this year. The second phase of our re-development will see the building of four additional IPU bedrooms, a garden room and a multi-faith chapel
Commenting on the announcement Oakhaven Chief Executive Andrew Ryde said “this is wonderful news for Oakhaven and the local community and with the first phase of our redevelopment, also part-funded by a DoH grant, now complete and the fully refurbished and extended Day Hospice facilities now open we are very excited to be able to consider moving so quickly onto this second phase. The grant award reflects the quality of our application and the professional detailed plans we have in place for this important second phase. However we must not lose sight of our fundraising goals as the necessity to continue our growth in this respect will become ever more important as we develop and grow our services and facilities while of course ensuring affordability of any new development is paramount”.
