OAKHAVEN HOSPICE PRESS RELEASE

17th March 2005

Queen's Award on Display

This week saw the unveiling of the prestigious Queen's Award for Voluntary Service awarded to Oakhaven volunteers last year. Oakhaven was nominated for this award by members of the public who have either benefited from the Hospice, or have seen the positive effect within the community. The award is only given to those groups where volunteers are judged to have regularly devoted their time to providing an outstanding level of help to other people.

A representative from F & S Noble Ltd, who produced and donated a tailor-made display cabinet, and Ian Roberts from Lush Signs, attended the event along with members of Oakhaven staff. The award along with the certificate and citation kindly framed by John Scott from The Camera Shop in Lymington, will now be on display in reception in the In-Patient Unit of the Hospice. A copy of the citation is also on display in the three Oakhaven shops.

Oakhaven Hospice provides a community-based specialist palliative service, caring for over 120 patients with complex needs and their families each week. It costs approximately £2 million to provide this service each year and, with 20% of funding coming from the NHS, the Hospice is reliant upon the generosity of the local community.
