OAKHAVEN HOSPICE PRESS RELEASE

August 2006

OAKHAVEN LOOKS TO THE FUTURE

Oakhaven Hospice is currently undertaking an evaluation of its services as part of a process to identify future needs of palliative care in the local community.  “We want to identify how well we are meeting the needs in the provision of services and to assess the palliative care currently available“ explained Oakhaven Chief Excutive Andrew Ryde.  “This is an essential piece of work which will help us structure the future development of the services we provide here at Oakhaven and will greatly assist us in determining how best to move forward and meet the needs of the community“.

“We are very proud of the facilities we offer within the Hospice and throughout the community and of the high regard local people have for out work.  We are determined to take Oakhaven forward and develop our range of services still further in a structured and viable manner by meeting the needs as identified through this project.  In order for us to this the evaluation process has to be extremely effective so it is essential that we achieve a high level of response“.

“We have preferred specific questionnaires for all those to whom palliative care has relevance.  This includes patients, carers & relatives, healthcare professionals and specialist organisations involved in palliative care.  We would invite anyone who works within, benefits from or believes they could benefit from palliative care, either as a patient, carer or relative to contribute to the evaluation“.

“Palliative care is about providing the best quality of life for patients and their families facing a life limiting illness.  Oakhaven works closely with all healthcare professionals to ensure the best quality of care is available for the community.  This is a real opportunity to continue to develop palliative care to meet their future needs“.

All responses will be treated in complete confidentiality and the evaluation is being conducted on an anonymous basis.  Questionaires can be obtained by calling Teresa Dack, Projest Co-ordinator at Oakhaven on 01590 613025.
