About Vauxhall Luton Male Voice Choir
Vauxhall Male Voice Choir was formed officially on 16th June 1943 by a group of men looking for an activity to raise their spirits during the war years. Just two months later they gave their first concert with other local male voice choirs, of which there were seven!
During the 1970s the choir had over 70 members and entered and won several competitions. The 1980s brought performances with massed military bands in the regular pageants at Luton football ground. In 2007 the choir became a separate entity and its members no longer have to be Vauxhall employees.
VMVC has ventured abroad (to France and Germany) and sung around the UK, particularly at venues along the South Coast and on the Isle of Wight and Guernsey. In recent years the choir has visited magnificent cathedrals such as Ely, Peterborough, St. Albans and Southwark, giving recitals in each. The choir has supported many charitable causes by putting on public concerts and performances.
Luton Male Voice Choir was formed in 1993 by a small group of enthusiasts led by Musical Director Ken Hone. Their objective was to promote male voice singing for personal and public pleasure and benefit. Since that time the choir went from strength to strength, growing into an entertaining and accomplished male voice choir. This choir has raised many thousands of pounds for local charities and promoted the good name of Luton throughout the country by supporting events as far afield as Norfolk, Yorkshire and Eastbourne.
Vauxhall Luton Male Voice Choir
Relying on their resilience and determination, these two established choirs came through the Covid pandemic period when many musical groups and organisations floundered and disappeared. A strong core of the membership remained throughout this difficult time, keeping in touch and rehearsing via Zoom!! Inevitably numbers became severely depleted. Luton Male Voice Choir made an initial approach to VMVC and after much consideration and discussion, it was decided to amalgamate the two choirs. On 15th June 2022, the new Vauxhall Luton Male Voice Choir was formed, combining membership and assets from both choirs, continuing to retain their strong values and clear aims. We hope this is the beginning of many more enjoyable and successful years to come.
