Living with illness

Volunteers chatting in The Hub

If you’re overwhelmed following a recent diagnosis, living with or caring for someone with a long term illness, there’s always someone at the Coates Centre ready to listen. Just come along to sit with a cuppa and talk with a trained volunteer if you want to or simply enjoy the surroundings - it is whatever you need or feel up to.

“This allows me to mentally forget about physical difficulties”

Our peer support groups listed below, offer the chance to get together with others, share experiences, and to know that you are not on your own.

“I’ve found reassurance and a feeling that I am not alone”

Dementia Support Group Expand

Working in partnership with Lymington Dementia Action Group and Bonhomie Charity. This friendly group meets twice a month to get together with others over a cuppa and slice of cake.

Support Group meets 1st Tuesday of the month 10.30 until 12noon
Informal Drop-In 3rd Tuesday of the month from 10.30am until 12noon

Brain Tumour Support Group Expand

Supporting those with any type of brain tumour, along with family members, friends and carers. The group partners with other brain tumour charities to offer a mixture of speakers/topics, coaching techniques, social chat and the opportunity to share information and experiences.

3rd Thursday of every month from 3pm until 4pm (except December and August).

Respiratory Support Group Expand

For anyone affected by or caring for someone with a respiratory condition. ‘Easy Breathe’ self-help support group meets to share experiences, chat over a coffee and cake. Activities and speakers are organised but generally it’s all quite informal.

2nd Monday of every month from 11am until 1pm

The Mulberry Group Expand

An informal self-help support group for anyone living with advanced cancer; family members and friends are welcome too. Share experiences, exchange information and support one another. We know it’s serious; there may be some tears but also some laughs, because we all understand what it’s like.

Last Friday of every month from 10.30am until 12.30pm

Telephone 01590 677198 for more details or just come along when you feel ready.
