Carer support

Carer Day attendee

A respite day for those carers who are supporting Oakhaven patients, which we have been proudly doing since 2005.

“Oakhaven Hospice has a lovely atmosphere; I really enjoy attending the carers days. I give a big sigh as I enter and breathe in the calm and compassion the hospice exudes and get ready to enjoy my day, knowing when I leave I’ll be able to take a deep breath in and pick up my big bag of caring duties on the way out….carers days are a lifeline”

Carer Day attendee
Who can attend? Expand

This is offered to any family member or friend who cares for a patient known to the hospice.

When are they held? Expand

We hold these days on the 2nd Tuesday of every month within our Day Hospice, you can attend for either a full or half day. Our aim is to provide time just for you to enjoy a relaxed and calming atmosphere.

What happens at a carers day? Expand

You will arrive at 10.30am and be welcomed by our team, there will be the opportunity to take part in activities, listen to a guest speaker or simply to just sit and relax, and this day is entirely about you.

A buffet lunch will be provided and offers a chance to chat with the other carers and offer support to one another.

We also offer Complementary therapies if you would like the opportunity to have a relaxation treatment.

I can't drive - can I still attend? Expand

We may offer transport for those who are unable to drive but this will depend on the availability of our volunteer drivers.

Who will look after my loved one while I am there? Expand

Oakhaven Hospice are unable to offer a sitter so that you may attend the day. However we are very happy to discuss potential solutions to this with you.
