This is your life dying matters couple laughing together

Oakhaven information event to encourage conversations about death and dying matters

Everyone is welcome to attend ‘This is your life…plan it, enjoy it!’ on Wednesday 8th May 2024 from 10am to 2pm, a free-of-charge information event organised by Oakhaven Hospice at Sway Place Care Home.

This is your life... plan it, enjoy it! will provide the opportunity to consider and discuss your options and plans for later life. Talking about death and dying can be tough. This event will help you, your family and friends to start the conversation.

Oakhaven’s event will be taking place during Hospice UK's Dying Matters Awareness Week, from 6th to 12th May. This annual campaign works towards creating an open culture in which we’re comfortable talking about death, dying and grief. This is your life...plan it, enjoy it! aims to facilitate this openness to ensure we all consider dying matters.

The event will bring together a breadth of local businesses, experts and organisations to provide useful insights into things we should all consider for end-of-life, including funeral options, celebrant choices, care in your own home and estate planning. The day will also inspire how to make the most of your life, helping you to shift any fears you might be harbouring to celebration and enjoyment.

This is the perfect opportunity to find information and guidance, especially if you are finding it hard to have conversations with your loved ones about death, dying and your preferences. Find out what is available in your community, gain assistance and guidance in making end-of-life plans, and discover great ways to enjoy life now!

A number of Q&A talks and free taster sessions will be taking place throughout the day, including singing, seated movement, a weave your memory art workshop, a wildlife walk in the garden and an informal tea dance session. There will also be information about Oakhaven Wellbeing support groups and activities that take place at the Coates Centre.

Many thanks to Care UK’s Sway Place who will be providing refreshments throughout the day and an informal lunch from 12pm - 1pm.
