Write a Will Month

September 2026

Last will and testiment with pen

Changed the way you live? Change the way you give!

September is our Write a Will Month

Oakhaven has teamed up with local solicitors and will writers, who are kindly donating their time and expertise to help you make or update your will when you make a donation to Oakhaven Hospice.

Your life is full of milestones: house purchases, marriage, children, divorce... To ensure that your wishes remain current, your will should be updated. Use our Write A Will Month to make those changes with a participating local solicitor or will writer. Your donation will make a difference to the families that Oakhaven supports throughout the New Forest, Totton and the Waterside.

Having an up-to-date will ensures that your wishes are met after your death. You can look after family and friends and support causes that you care about. Leaving a gift in your will can be a highly tax-efficient way of giving to charity and supporting your community.

What kind of will is covered by Write a Will Month?

During Write a Will Month, our participating local solicitors and will writers have kindly offered to waive their usual fee for making or updating a Simple Will or a Simple Mirror Will when you make a donation to Oakhaven Hospice.

A simple will is a straightforward legal document used to outline exactly how you want your money, property, and possessions distributed after your death. It is typically designed for people with uncomplicated estates (e.g., leaving everything outright to a spouse or dividing assets equally among children)

For example, a simple will might include, as appropriate, executor and testamentary guardian appointments, up to four cash legacies and simple division of the residuary estate, including trusts to defer an entitlement to a specified age.

For a couple, simple mirror wills would require the provisions in the wills to be identical or near identical, so as not to be separate documents.

If your circumstances are more complex, you may need a specialised or trust-based will instead of a simple one. If this is the case you can still take part in Write A Will Month and make a donation to Oakhaven Hospice and any additional work that will need to be done to your will over and above the simple guidelines above will be charged by your participating solicitor directly.

Book from Monday 17th August to 30th September for an appointment between 1st September and 31st October 2026.

Booking will open on Monday 17th August with participating solicitors and will writers for appointments between 1st September and 31st October 2026. Your Write a Will Month donation will help Oakhaven to provide vital hospice care and support for families affected by end-of-life throughout the New Forest, Totton and the Waterside.

How to take part in Write a Will Month

1. Book your appointment

Contact one of our participating will writers or solicitors, and book your appointment between 17th August and 30th September 2026. Each firm has a limited number of appointments. Check before making the appointment if there are any specific criteria.

2. Donate to Oakhaven Hospice

We suggest a donation of £250 for a simple will or £450 for a simple mirror will, based on the normal cost with the solicitor or will writer, or give what you can. To make your donation, please use the form below or telephone 01590 677773 and state that you're donating for Write a Will Month.

3. We'll send confirmation

We will confirm your donation to Write a Will Month by post or email if your appointment is imminent. Please take this with you to your appointment with the participating solicitor or will writer.

Consider leaving a gift for Oakhaven in your will

Oakhaven has been providing free hospice care for local people and their loved ones for nearly 35 years. During that time, gifts in wills have played a significant role.

Every day it costs over £24,500 to fund Oakhaven's services. Yet the NHS only covers 14% each year - for the remaining 86% we rely on your kind donations, fundraising, gifts in wills, income from our shops and social enterprise Oakhaven Care.

Gifts left in wills help us to make every moment matter for those who are facing end-of-life. We are extremely grateful for all legacies, whatever their size.

Leave a lasting legacy with a gift in your will

Compassionate and skilled care is vital to us all as we approach the end of our lives, but so too is how we use the time we have left. The moments we share and the memories we make, stay in the hearts of our loved ones after we’ve gone. A gift in your will for Oakhaven will create memories and help make every moment matter at the end of life for generations to come.
