Write a Will Month
September 2024
Write or update your will this September in return for a donation to Oakhaven Hospice
This September, Oakhaven has teamed up with local solicitors and estate planners who will waive their usual will writing fee in return for a donation to Oakhaven Hospice.
Your life is full of milestones; house purchases, marriage, children or divorce...To ensure that your wishes remain current, your will should be updated, so why not utilise our Write A Will Month to make those changes - your donation will make a difference to the families that Oakhaven cares for throughout the New Forest, Totton and Waterside communities.
Changed the way you live? Change the way you give!
Having an up-to-date will ensures that your wishes are met after your death. You can look after family and friends and support the causes you care most about.
Leaving a gift in your will can be a highly tax-efficient way of giving to charity and supporting your community.
Follow these 3 simple steps:
Contact one of our participating solicitors/estate planners and book an appointment between 19 August and 30 September 2024. Each firm has a limited number of appointments which can take place. Check before making the appointment if there are any specific criteria.
Click the button below to make your suggested donation: £250 donation for a simple will or £450 donation for a simple mirror will. Of course, you might want to donate more.
Take your donation acknowledgement to your appointment with your chosen solicitor or estate planner.
Important Information
We are frequently asked what constitutes a simple will. Our participating solicitors and will writers suggest that a simple will would include the following:
- Executor and testamentary guardian appointments, as appropriate
- Up to 4 cash legacies
- Simple division of the residuary estate including trusts to defer an entitlement to a specified age.
For a couple, basic mirror wills would require the provisions in the wills to be identical or near identical, so as not to be separate documents.
A simple will would not include:
- Long lists of cash gifts and gifts of possessions
- Wills involving a foreign element
- The inclusion of substantive trusts either as legacies or as part of the residue provisions
- Business assets
- Inheritance tax and care fees mitigation planning
Any additional requirements can be subject to an additional charge at the discretion of the participating solicitor or will writer. Please check with your chosen organisation for full details.

Legacies help Oakhaven in so many ways
Oakhaven has been providing free hospice care for local people and their loved ones for over 30 years. During that time, gifts in wills have played a significant role.
Every day it costs over £21,500 to fund Oakhaven's services. Yet the NHS only covers 11% each year - for the remaining 89% we rely on your kind donations, fundraising, gifts in wills, income from our shops and social enterprise Oakhaven Care.
Gifts left in wills help us to make every moment matter for those who are facing end-of-life. We are extremely grateful for all legacies, whatever their size.
Leave a lasting legacy with a gift in your will
Compassionate and skilled care is vital to us all as we approach the end of our lives, but so too is how we use the time we have left. The moments we share and the memories we make, stay in the hearts of our loved ones after we’ve gone. A gift in your will for Oakhaven will create memories and help make every moment matter at the end of life for generations to come.
