Oakhaven volunteer feature in national Woman & Home magazine
Many thanks to our volunteer, Rita, who agreed to feature in the December 2025 Woman and Home magazine in an article about volunteering on Christmas Day.
Our volunteers are simply amazing: they give their time and energy to support Oakhaven, bringing a wealth of experience along with their commitment in wanting to help others and make a difference. At Christmas, the support of volunteers like Rita is a real help to our nursing team. Click here to find out more about volunteering for Oakhaven.
You see, our care doesn't stop for the holidays. On Christmas Eve, on Christmas morning, on every day over the festive period, our nurses and carers will be at a bedside, or on the phone to a worried family, or driving to help someone at home. Our hospice care is free of charge.
We are there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. But we can't do this alone.
It costs over £24,500 every day to provide our services - and this winter, demand is rising while costs climb. Only a small proportion of our costs are covered by the government.
For the remainder we rely on the generosity of donations, fundraising and gifts in wills, along with income from our shops and our social enterprise home care provider Oakhaven Care. We simply cannot reach out to everyone who needs us without the kindness of our supporters.
Could you give a gift to Oakhaven this Christmas to help us provide hospice care for local families?
