Social support groups at Oakhaven Wellbeing Centre

Oakhaven Wellbeing offers a range of peer support groups which are safe and supportive environments to get together with others, share experiences, and feel that you are not on your own. Our sessions are open to all, along with your family and friends who may be supporting you.

Dementia Support Group Expand

Working in partnership with Lymington Dementia Action Group and the Bonhomie Charity. This relaxed and friendly group currently meets weekly at the Coates Centre to get together  over a cuppa and slice of cake, to support one another.

Easy Breathe Respiratory Support Group Expand

Meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 10am until 11am.
For anyone affected by, or caring for someone, with a respiratory condition.
Our ‘Easy Breathe’ self-help group meets to find support, share experiences and skills, managing stress and difficulties, and ways to live life as well as possible.
The group meets at the Coates Centre but a zoom link is available for anyone who would like to join but is unable to attend in person.

Living Well Six Week Programme Expand

This informal collection of six weekly sessions aims to provide information and keep you as well as possible with your life limiting illness.

Week One– Getting to Know You –A chance for everyone to meet each other. This session also introduces the topics covered during the course, as well as outlining the services offered by Oakhaven Wellbeing and Oakhaven Hospice.

Week Two - The Importance of Exercise & Introduction to Physiotherapy – learn how to keep as mobile as possible, includes an introduction to some exercises to both maintain mobility and improve wellbeing.

Week Three– Occupational Therapy & Fatigue Management – Tiredness and fatigue is a common symptom experienced by many. This session explores the impact of fatigue and looks at some techniques for managing tiredness, with a brief introduction to the role of an occupational therapist and how they may help you to maintain your independence.

Week Four -The Role of Nutrition in maintaining your health. How to enjoy eating, with a brief guide to nutrition and including how to manage weight loss and a loss of appetite

Week Five – Difficult Conversations –A opportunity to look at the important things we all face including planning wills and funerals, fears and worries, DNR resuscitation decisions and the role of a Power of Attorney

Week Six –An Introduction to Complementary Therapy & Counselling Services – Oakhaven’s Comp Therapy team talk the various treatments which are designed to enhance wellbeing, relaxation techniques, and wellbeing workshops. While our Counselling team talk about the benefits of sharing your thoughts and feelings on what you’re going through with a Counsellor.

Course dates:  10.30am – 12noon
Monday 21st February – Monday 28th March
Monday 16th May – Monday 27th June (please note there is no session on 13th June).
Places are limited and must be booked.

 

 

 

Stroke Café Expand

If you or a loved one has been affected by Stroke then join the Stroke Association staff and volunteers for friendly peer support, information and advice over a cuppa and cake.
Meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 2pm until 4pm at the Coates Centre.
No appointment necessary.
