Help us make every moment matter for patients during this festive season
Every day, our specialist team provides compassionate care for patients and support for their loved ones. The festive season can often be very difficult for those going through the unimaginable. At Oakhaven, we give the space and time for local families to make precious memories, making sure that every moment matters.
Oakhaven's specialist team does everything they can to make every moment matter for local patients, at every stage of their end-of-life journey. Our hospice care is provided free of charge, both in the Hospice and in patients’ homes across the New Forest, Totton and the Waterside.
“Our Single Point of Access telephone line remains available for patients and families 24/7, including over Christmas. This is so important to patients, who might have questions or concerns. If required, our community nursing team will visit them at home.”
“Enjoying those final weeks at home was so important for us as a family to keep some normality. What helped so much, though, was the fantastic care and support from the specialist nurses visiting, making sure that time was as pain-free as possible."
“On Christmas Day, we serve a special Christmas lunch to our patients. There is laughter and joy, special memories for families who are visiting. Celebrating the festivities can help restore a ‘sense of normality’ for patients in a home-from-home environment.”
“We enjoy a special festive lunch together in Day Hospice. I really enjoy sitting together at the table and having conversations, which gives my appetite a boost - having company is very important when you live on your own and only see people once a week.”
"Seeing the smiling faces of people that you know is some of the best medicine you can get. We swap stories, little jokes, and there’s just something special about sharing time with others, especially at this time of year.”
"All the staff at Oakhaven worked so hard to ensure that Christmas with Dad was memorable for the right reasons. A magical time we will always be grateful for."
"When time was running out for a patient with a young family, we created Christmas in November, decorating with tinsel and even creating reindeer footprints through the Inpatient Unit. The family were able to enjoy precious time together, with a Christmas meal and giving each other presents, making happy memories."
"I volunteer in the Inpatient Unit every Christmas Day to help the staff. There is always a wonderful atmosphere and we welcome families to visit their loved ones. Last year, I remember a young girl who wanted to see her grandpa before she opened any Christmas presents. She enjoyed some time with him and also went out in the Oakhaven gardens, where she was delighted to find the Wendy house and fairy garden..."
